Could Soulja Boy be headed from the recording studio to the White House? The rapper, born DeAndre Cortez Way, has raised the possibility of a 2028 presidential run after posting “SOULJA BOY 2028” on Instagram on October 10.
In his statement, the “Crank That” artist outlined four areas of interest: economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and artificial intelligence. He described the move as exploring how his experience in music, business, and technology might translate to public service.
Not at this stage. The social media announcement did not constitute a formal campaign launch, and Soulja Boy has not identified a political party or released detailed policy proposals. His comments signal an interest in a possible run rather than a confirmed candidacy.
Soulja Boy became a breakout star with his 2007 viral hit “Crank That (Soulja Boy).” He previously performed at the Crypto Ball during festivities surrounding Donald Trump’s January 2025 inauguration. Other musicians, including Kanye West, have pursued presidential campaigns in the past.
